The 2018 edition of the much anticipated Halliday Wine Companion was released this week and we are extremely humbled to have retained our 5 Red Star rating. We have held this rating since the 2012 edition of the Wine Companion. This rating recognises wineries that have regularly produced wines of exemplary quality and typicity’ have at least two wines rated at 95 points or above, and had a five-star rating for the previous two years. This places Flametree Wines in the top 10% of wineries Australia wide.

Some of our highlights from this year’s edition include:

96 points – Flametree Margaret River Shiraz 2015
Special Value Star

“Wild-fermented in batches in open and static fermenters, plunged and/or pumped over twice daily, select parcels with whole bunches, matured for 10 months in French oak. A complex, full-bodied shiraz with black cherry, plum, licorice and spices all well and truly in play. The texture and structure of the wine are built around ripe, fine tannins. A long life ahead.”

94 points – Flametree Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2014
Special Value Star

“Another faultless expression of this definitive Margaret River blend from Flametree. A beautiful purity runs through the wine, beginning with a bouquet of varietal cassis, redcurrant and floral notes, and the regional influence of bay leaf, tobacco and herb. Smoothly textured and supple, the flavours mirror the aromas, framed by superfine, melting tannin. Delicious.”

92 points – Flametree Embers Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Special Value Star

“A ready-to-drink style is Embers’ mantra. It is that and much more as it over delivers on quality and flavour. Plush and ripe red-dark fruits, cassis and woodsy-spice infused with supple tannins, slight grip on the finish, refreshing and rewarding.”

95 points – Flametree S.R.S. Wallcliffe Chardonnay 2016

“Flametree’s flagship white highlights great fruit from the (unofficial) subregion of Wallcliffe coupled with thoughtful winemaking. The result is a flinty, complex and savoury wine with plenty of flavour; moreish leesy characters plus grapefruit and pith, and tangy as anything.”

95 points – Flametree S.R.S. Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

“The S.R.S. releases highlight Margaret River’s subregions, with this wine sourced from Wilyabrup, long regarded as the regional benchmark for cabernet. Oozes quality all the way. Blackcurrant, dark chocolate and juicy red berry aromas and flavours are enhanced by cedary oak and framed by sublime tannin. The concentration, elegance and structure are exemplary.”
