Madfish Riesling

Our MadFish Riesling grows in the Great Southern wine region of Western
Australia. This climate is called “continental” and is characterized by long cold
winters, warm summers and not a lot of rainfall. Being away from the coast, the
difference between the day time and night time temperature is greater than in a
region closer to the coast. Riesling seems to like these conditions.
Winemakers say Riesling is tough to make because there is nowhere to hide.
It’s just you and the grapes, no oak, no malo, no tricks…
When we make Riesling we strive to preserve and showcase clean, bright citrus
and apple, fruit flavours. Sometimes the acidity can be a little high so leaving a
bit of sugar at the end of the fermentation gives a nice drinking balance – not
too sweet and not too sour – just right

Lovely lemon in colour with lime zest, citrus blossom and pear aromas.
The generous flavours are of peaches and toffee apple, with a silky texture and
mineral acidity that keeps the palate lasting and fresh. A great example of Riesling’s
star quality, this is a stellar wine that suits any occasion!

The summer holiday period that precedes the grape harvest is often a great
indicator of wine quality and style. Unlike the mild summer of 2017, 2018 was warm
and dry – ideal outdoors weather and of course conducive to drinking Riesling. As
summer turned to autumn the weather remained fine and mild allowing all grapes to
ripen fully with little delay to maturity. The end result is white wines with pure,
focused and well defined varietal notes.

Enjoy now and over the next year either on its own or with fish tacos, nori rolls or
sashimi tuna
